Best Choice Award 2023 Award 40 Innovative Products in the BC Award Winners Launch

As a co-organizer of COMPUTEX, Taipei Computer Association (TCA) stated that as the official award of COMPUTEX, the Best Choice Award (BC Award) held the BC Award Winners Launch on May 23. The Winners Launch event announced a total of 40 winners of the Category Award, the Golden Award, and the Sustainable Tech Special Award. The winning products include Acer, ADATA, Amaryllo, ASRock, Asustek, AVerMedia, CHT Security, Compal, Cypress, ELAN, Frore Systems, FSP, Graid Technology, Jorjin, K-Best, Maktar, Mobile Pixels, MSI, NVIDIA, Onyx Healthcare, oToBrite, QCT, Realtek, Trans Electric, Voltronic Power, and more.

 

The winning products range from AI computers, gaming & metaverse, electric vehicles & smart cockpits, smart applications, ESG, and cybersecurity which reflects the main trends for international buyers. The winner of the Best Choice of the Year Award will be announced during the opening of COMPUTEX 2023 on May 30.

With the growing interest in ESG integration in the global supply chain, the Best Choice Award introduced the Sustainable Tech Special Award. The special award aims to promote products that are compliant with ESG goals and sustainability trends. From a survey of the participating and winning products, it is clear that manufacturers have already taken active steps in being eco-friendlier and more sustainable. For example, by utilizing recycled materials into the product or the packaging materials, implementing carbon-reducing and recyclable designs, and more.

For example, the award-winning products ASUS ExpertBook B9 OLED has surpassed the ENERGY STAR certification requirements by 44%, features 100% non-plastic packaging materials and uses 70% FSC-certified paper. The product also utilize 29% less raw material through the groundbreaking Thixomolding process at only 25% the production time.

 

ASUS's ExpertBook B9 OLED is verified as exceeding ENERGY STAR standards by 44%, meaning the product consumes energy at a lower-than-average rate. Its packaging is 100% nonplastic and and uses 70% FSC-certified paper. Using breakthrough thixomolding to produce the Mg-Li materials used in the laptop, raw materials are reduced by 29% and production time by 75%. The ASUS ExpertBook B9 OLED is suitable for carbon-neutral policies to to help reduce a company's carbon footprint.

Another award-winning product, the Acer Aspire Vero 15 is manufactured mainly from post-consumer recycled plastics (PCR) which is expected to reduce plastic usage by 30 tons in this year. PCT is used in 40% of chassis and 50% of the keycaps and power adapter casing. The OceanGlass touchpad is made with ocean plastics and the eco-packaging of the Aspire Vero 15 is 100% recyclable and reusable.

TCA stated that the AI trend brought about by ChatGPT, GPT-4, PaLM 2, etc. has accelerated the implementation of AI computing into industrial applications. According to a report by IDC, the global spending on AI systems including software, hardware, and cloud related solutions in 2023 is estimated to achieve USD 154 billion, an increase of 26.9% from 2022. The global market size of AI-centric systems is expected to surpass $300 billion in 2026 with a CAGR of 27% between 2022 and 2026. The main industries that will contribute to the AI system spending are finance, retail, professional services, discrete manufacturing, process manufacturing, etc.

COMPUTEX remains one of the most important B2B tradeshows in the global digital transformation solutions supply chain. Every industry today needs to use AI computing to improve efficiency. Leveraging on this trend, manufacturers have also launched their corresponding technology products and solutions for various AI computing application scenarios.

 

The winning products this year; including NVIDIA DGX, QCT POD HPC/AI Converged System, Onyx Healthcare Medical Surgical Robotic AI Image Computing Platform, and other solutions that can be used in smart manufacturing, digital finance, smart retail, smart medical, and other industries.

AI-centric products are also among the highlights of this year’s BC Award; including Realtek’s Edge AI USB Camera Controller (RTS5863), Amaryllo’s Biometric Camera Modules M2D, ELAN Microelectronics’ E-Bus LKA/FCW ADAS Systems, and oToBrite’s AI Industrial Grade Time-of-Flight 3D Depth Sensing Camera. All of these products are AI-enabled to provide better product performance and market competitiveness.

According to NewZoo report, PC and console revenues reached $92.3 billion in 2022, and it is estimated that there are over 1 billion PC players and 611 console players globally. In addition, AV processing and AI computing still require high-performance PC support. Gaming and e-sports products remain popular with nearly 25% of the winning products being related to gaming applications.

COMPUTEX 2023 started to see new vertical field applications made possible by metaverse and XR. The products include NVIDIA Omniverse Enterprise, Jorjin J7i Light - AI & AR Intelligent platform, and Compal’s XR CUBE and APAL 5G MR Glasses. Various metaverse applications can be developed for multiple industries and fields, including industry 4.0, smart manufacturing, smart city, smart factory, teleconferencing, smart education, and more that can be used and executed on the cloud.

Demand for 3D displays continue to grow, but using 3D glasses or 3D VR goggles is not ideal as users generally find them to be too inconvenient for general usage. This year, many of the winning products are able to offer naked-eye 3D display. The winning products include Acer’s Predator Helios 3D 15 SpatialLabs Edition, ASUS ProArt Studiobook 16 3D OLED, and Cypress 4K Naked-eye 3D surgical medical image PC. The products can be used in 3D product design, 3D display interaction, and 3D display of surgical screens and other applications.
